What Is Ogham? (pronounced Og-am, or Oh-am)
Ogham is an ancient Irish alphabet, consisting of twenty characters (known as 'feda') formed by parallel strokes on either side of or across a continuous line. It is considered to represent an ancient system of writing - an alphabet - first used to record ancient Irish somehwere around the 1st to 4th century. Most often used today for divination and decoration, each letter symbol has specific, and often complicated and multi-faceted, concepts associated with each one. These leter/symbols are associated with various aspects, in particular specific trees and/or plants.
"I have translated each letter's meaning into corresponding essential oils representing the healing properties inherent in each symbols meaning and associated tree, to create highly intentional blends that the intentioner can use to explore the spiritual power of each symbol in a highly tangible and olfactory way. Bringing the spirit of each selected symbol into their everyday, as a way to more intentionally work with the Ogham as one goes about their modern daily life, allows these plants medicines to work with us in a unique and dynamic way, when we so intention it!" - Morgana, Modern Druid
Our range of Ogham oils have been created as a way to tangibly engage with the Ogham by experiencing the healing correspondences associated with each letter symbol (or fid) tree delivered through scent. Our oils can be used in a multitude of ways - as a perfume applied to the skin, placed onto a cotton pad and tucked into a pillowcase, used in diffusers, for anointing candles, dropped onto lava bead jewerly and worn, or in any way that anyone might typically utilize aromatherapy oils.
Using Dair (D) as an example, here is how we might utilize the healing properties associated with this letter symbol for the Oak tree. Dair symbolizes strength and endurance but there is so more to Dair than can be represented in a descriptive word or two. The fid brings in aspects of stability, truth, longevity, strong foundations and great effort to its meaning. Calling upon the aspects of Dair to set intentions based on the letter's traits, it can help connect to our own inner strength and endurance, helping to ensure that our motivations are true and helping to direct personal power to get through life's challenges...
To utilize Dair's gifts, we might start our morning with a brief mediation calling upon Dair to give us the strength and endurance we need to meet current challenges while applying the Dair Intention Oil to temples and / or pulse points, or place a drop or two in a diffuser to scent the room, or on a candle that we light as we focus on that intention ...
Wearing the oil can help bring our attention back to these intentions throughout the day, reinforcing positive feelings of being supported in our wishes as we go about our everyday responsibilities.
Applying a drop or two to lava jewelry, or keeping a rollerball handy to reapply whenever desired, is a great way to carry intentions throughout the day.
Applying a drop to your pillow at night (or a drop placed on a cotton ball and stashed into your pillowcase to avoid staining) can also be a great way to keep intention work close at hand (or nose!).

Using the example of Duir above, here's how this oil can help to support our intentions ...
Dair, representing strength and endurance, allows us to anchor Duir's concepts through a blend representing correspondences into an aromatherapeutic association. Oils such as Petitgrain (to reduce stress), Copaiba (to promote healing and alleviate pain), Cypress (to reduce anxiety), Cedarwood (to ground and calm), and Ravensara (to reduces faitgue and act as an immune strengthener) all combine to bring through these healing aspects of Oak to bear in our healing work.
Each blend is diluted with an organic carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, or hemp oil (please reference each oil for specific details on ingredients).
Additionally, each blend contains a trace amount of the tree or plant with which it is associated.
We use only organic or wildcrafted essential oils wherever possible and source all of our products from sustainable producers, and never use synthetic or B-grade products.
We also incorporate reiki, crystal and sound therapies into the crafting of these intention oils, using selenite to cleanse and purify and high frequency crystal sound and reiki to attune and raise consciousness and vibration, adding healing frequencies to the oil substrate itself.
All of these oils are handcrafted by Morgana Brennan, Owner and Chief Magic Maker of Modern Druid in Nyack, New York.
